How to Find Success With SalonScale

By TJ O'Donnell |

You’ve heard about SalonScale but aren’t convinced it’s the right fit yet. You’re busy, your team is busy and you don’t have the resources, time or money to waste on something that just isn’t going to work for you. We totally get that (and as a previous salon owner, we’ve been in your position too) so we’re here to break it down for you! Here are our top 6 tips to finding success with SalonScale and making the most of your 30-day free trial.

1. Setting up your account

It seems obvious, doesn’t it? But it’s important to do this within the first three days of signing up. We can do most of the heavy lifting for you if you’d like, or you can do it yourself. It’s completely your choice! Setting up your account includes:

  1. Adding your color lines, wholesale pricing and markup
  2. Adding your team of stylists (if applicable)
  3. Downloading the SalonScale mobile app

That’s it! Once you have this information added to your account, you’re ready to roll (and start tracking $$).

2. Buying in (and getting your team onboard, too)

You don’t have to do it all in one day. After getting set up, we suggest setting a goal to use it on every color guest in your chair for one week so you can get familiar with the mobile app. Pick a Change Champion (such as the salon protege or the stylist who is most trusted by the team) to help get the rest of the team on board. Book a staff meeting and explain what SalonScale is and how it will allow you to provide more opportunities for the team, such as group activities, education and more.

If you are a booth renter or a suite owner, this might include getting your business partner/life partner/best friend etc. familiar with SalonScale too.

We have resources to help ensure this process is as seamless as possible. You got this!

3. Understanding your numbers

Numbers?! We promise it’s not as scary as it sounds.

This includes reflecting on your pricing structure and potentially adding the SalonScale dollar amount on top of your existing pricing, or you might decide to completely revamp your pricing to reflect parts + labor. It’s totally up to you – we can help provide resources and assistance with both options.

We also offer a reports section where you can better understand your color costs, broken down by stylists, clients and products. Which products are most used? Which clients provide you with the most profit? We can provide that data and more.

4. Communicating change(s)

Sometimes salon owners are nervous about what their clients are going to say, but we promise, it’s going to be okay! In fact, most clients appreciate the new transparency and are pleased they are only going to be charged for the color used – nothing more. Surprise, we have resources for this too ;).

5. Consistency is key

Focus on submitting sessions consistently for a full month. Like anything, it’s easier when it becomes a habit. Besides, after a month, most salon owners that use SalonScale make an additional $1600 in profit (!!) so the consistency is going to be SO worth it!

6. Celebrating the small wins

We get it – you’re super busy and it’s hard to make time to take a breath, much less celebrate. However, it’s important to pat yourself, and your team, on the back for a job well done. Maybe this includes planning a team bonding activity for everyone or picking up Starbucks. You deserve to treat yourself and your team!

If you’re ready to start making more profit, go ahead and sign up for our 30-day free trial. If you’re still unsure, book a demo with us and we’ll answer any questions you might have and show you exactly how it works!
